Couples silver joy
Who said the art of chivalry was dead? Not Peter Graafland, who decided that CPO's romantic cliff top setting was too good an opportunity to miss the opportunity to pop the question. With a little help from staff in Jackie's, a bottle of bubbly and a couple of glasses, the romantic Dutchman got down on one knee and asked girlfriend Marloes to marry him. "I thought it would be a romantic thing to do and fortunately she said yes", says Peter. "I got the idea after talking to the barman. They put out a table on the beach with food and champagne and Marloes was just so surprised." The couple have been good friends for eight years- but Peter decided that a warmer Portugal rather than chillier Holland would be a better place to pop the question. But what was the couple's verdict on CPO? "It's nice and quiet and we like it this way", says Peter, who once visited the coast in summer years ago. "Now we're saving up to get married." Perhaps it could be the perfect honeymoon destination? "It's certainly very beautiful," says Marloes. We'll keep you posted!
Quite a few, it seems, following the latest Golden Beach mailbag. Dorothea and Graham Nattrass, from Haslemere in Surrey, wrote to us after reading the story of Angus and Sheena Ferguson form Inverness, whose "amazing coincidence" was arriving on their wedding anniversary (Saturday September 28th 1996) to find the Clube's 25-year anniversary party in full swing. Dorothea and Graham also enjoyed the celebrations, but decided to celebrate their big day with a trip to Cape St Vincent, Europe's most southwesterly point. "On our first honeymoon in Scotland we went to the Arbnamurchan lighthouse, the most westerly point on the British mainland, and of course the Cape is tat the southwesterly extremity of Europe,' quite an awesome sight." "Scotland was beautiful but chilly, but we probably enjoyed our second honeymoon in balmy Portugal more." "It was a very special time, "adds the part-time librarian, "and we found the Oura Praia Hotel very relaxing. We went up to Monchique and Foia, the highest point on the Algarve." Incidentally, the couple enjoyed their trip to Portugal so much that they bought a week at CPO!
"We haven't had one complaint since we've been here in 10 years," say Tom and Mary Sawyer
