There has been a lot of work in the Algarve to improve the facilities available for disabled people. Lifts and ramps are becoming an increasingly common feature in buildings throughout the region and more and more hotels now have rooms adapted for disabled use.
Faro Airport caters well for disabled people. The disabled passengers are boarded onto the plane before children and other passengers. At the aircraft door, wheel-chair bound passengers are transfered to a narrower aisle-chair so that staff can get them to their seat.

The terminal itself is also very accessible for the disabled, with good elevators and good toilet facilities.
There is no access for wheelchairs on public transport but there are four seats reserved for people with disabilities. The blind can travel with their dog at no extra cost, providing that the guide dog is on a leash and wearing a muzzle.
There are some private car hire companies though which have vehicles specially adapted for people with disabilities.
